Moira Rough Story Outline
Fairies are frolicking, chatting off in the distance on a sunny morning while a young bat-fairy , Moira, looks on curiously, anxiously wanting to approach the group. She peaks around the corner of her cave, and then thinks to herself how she might approach them. Bing! She has an idea.
She flies up to them and waves, putting on her biggest grin in an attempt to say hello. Seeing her sharp teeth, they get scared and fly off. She frowns to herself and thinks again. She tries various antics in an attempt to make friends with these other fairies, from showing off her wings, hanging upside down, and even bringing them an insect she likes to eat. On all occasions, the other fairies are a little perturbed by what to them is rather strange behavior.
After a whole day of attempting to impress them, she is somewhat disappointed. Thinking she should just head in for the night, she gloomily retreats back to her cave. On the way, however, she spots a flower not far from her dwelling. Of course! She quickly gathers it up and flies to the other fairies before they go to bed, pushing it forward and smiling at them. Confused why Moira is offering them a flower that hasn’t even bloomed, they look at her oddly. Just as night falls and the moon lights up the night, the flower begins to bloom. They are amazed by the moonflower and Moira finally succeeds in impressing her new fairy friends.

Moira Turn-Around and Expressions
Cleaned up the rough expression sheet for Moira. Tried to make her more bat-like in the way that I colored her, to make her look considerably different from how fairies are often portrayed.
Cleaned up a couple of her expressions as well. Enjoy!

Moira Rough Character Design
Redesigned one of the original concepts of the bat-fairy that I had done. I kept her essentially the same, but simplified her form and changed her eyes to be better suited to her. Her name is Moira.

Backstory:
Moira is one of a kind, a bat-fairy unlike the rest of the fairies in her forest. A strange mixture of both bat and fairy, displaying strong bat wings, large ears, and dark hair as a result. She has always been ostracized by the other fairies, fairies of the light who brandish delicate butterfly and dragonfly wings. Her differences not only make her self-conscious about her appearance, but make it hard for her to socialize with the rest of the fairy circle. Orphaned as a child, she becomes especially lonely as she grows older, seeking comfort in exploring the forest at night when she finds herself most at home. Daughter to a fairy mother and bat father, her mother raised her alone for the beginning of her life, but was eventually taken by an owl when Moira was still young. She is now alone in her fairy society without the protection of her mother, and seeks only companionship with her fairy sisters.
Toll Booth Story:
Moira is driving along the highway looking to meet with some potential friends when she comes across a toll booth. Unfortunately, this is an area she is not familiar with and did not expect a toll on her route. She checks around, looking this way and that, but the booth is unmanned for the day and there are no other cars on the road. She quickly searches her bag, compartments, pockets, and trunk for any loose change, but finds only leaves, twigs, acorns, and a couple of fruit pits. Since she couldn’t find change, she thinks perhaps the acorns may work—after all, maybe the machine may accept something else of value? Dropping them into the coin cone, she anxiously looks to see if it will take them, but they are quickly deposited to the rejected coin pit. She then tries the fruit pits with the same result. She even tries stuffing the leaves into the dollar slot, but these simply crumble and fall onto the pavement. At this point, she starts to worry, checking under her seats with little luck. Moira sits down in her car and pouts to herself, wondering if she should just sneak through, quickly rejecting that idea since that wouldn’t be right of her to do. Sighing, she resigns herself to the fact that she won’t be able to make it to the gathering if she can’t get past this toll, although she knows that there are no other routes to make it to her destination. Determined to make it one way or another, Moira parks her car on the side of the road and begins her long trek to the gathering. After hours of hiking, she makes it to the meeting spot, although too late—everyone has already gone home. Disappointed and tired, she makes her way back to her car and heads home, hopeful for another opportunity to meet new friends in the near future.

Concept/Development Art
So here is the list of concepts I came up for the assignment. I ended up coloring all of them just for a little bit of clarity.
So the first concept is about a pig who doesn't like the mud. I was thinking of making it so that his mother is trying to get him to take a mud "bath" but he likes to be clean, and so goes through a lot of trouble trying to avoid it.
The second is about a cheetah who can't run fast, and has to figure out how to get back in shape since he can't catch any prey on his own.
The third is about a picky elephant who refuses to eat peanuts. I'm not quite sure what I want to do with this one yet, but I liked the idea and want to try going somewhere with it.
The fourth is about a fairy who is a little bit different than the other fairies in the fact that she has bat wings rather than butterfly wings. She is very self conscious about her differences until she learns to love herself the way she is and is accepted by the other fairies.
The last is about a hamster who explores the world in his little hamster ball, visiting tourist sites all over the world despite his small size.
And that's about it--enjoy!
